Final weeks
the final weeks of this quarter is when all the groups will be finishing up and getting ready to start there engines. my group was the first to start there engine which made me slightly nervous being that I have never started a engine on an engine stand. my group being the first made sure every connection and bolt and fitting was tight and properly sealed. the engines begin on a rotary stand which allows to be turned 360 degrees for easier disassembly and assembly. after the engine is mostly ready to be ran it goes on a engine running stand and with some assembly of components that had to be taken off due to the are where the rotary stand bolts too the block, the engine is ready to start. some components that had to added afterwards was the secondary oil filter and housing, oil return line for the turbo and oil fill tube. these components where fairly easy to put back on the engine.

The picture above is the electrical and fuel set up for the engine starter and fuel injection pump. the fuel pump on the tank supply's a steady flow of diesel to the injection pump which it turn is fed to the injectors to deliver fuel to the cylinders. one concern I had when we where going to start our engine is that it might run very poorly due to injection timing being slightly retarted which was somewhat close to spec but still worried me a bit. if we had new shims and gaskets we could have gotten the injection timing closer to spec but being this engine only ran for a couple minutes it was not a pressing issue. another concern I had was gasket failure especially around the oil filter housing. but after a professional RTV repair it didn't leak. I was impressed with my teams effort and ability to solve problems with a calm state of mind and a smart approach. Lester and other groups where very helpful and respectful during the entire rebuilding process and I was very happy with the effort in safety that every person put in to ensure everyone's safety. I have learned more than I have ever expected and excited to learn more in the last few weeks we have left.
